Self Discipline Is It!

Self Discipline Is It!

How many times have you attended a Church service or Friday Jumat and came out with the impression that the Preacher of the day killed the sermon? - that is he spoke truth to the Words of God!

How many times have you allowed yourself to be reminded of the things you actually know but fail to do?

How often do you leak away the motivation that is in you already?

Our inability to do things we ought to be doing is the undoing of many a man and this is simply because we allow our brain to control us in such as a way as to keep us lazy

Listen, your brain was designed to keep you lazy, it was not meant to help you succeed, if you want success, then you must re-wire your brain.

You must wear the garment of self discipline because that is what it will take to make you productive.

Depending on your brain to help you succeed is like depending on facebook to make you socially valuable  and relevant because it is a social media site.

So when we start to question whether we are really going to get down to some work, whether it's too late to make a start, whether we should watch the James Bond movie on TV instead, we start to 'leak' motivation.

Any time you leave what you ought to be doing to do what you ought not to be doing, you are leaking motivation  and self discipline is not in you.

Make self-discipline 'non-negotiable'.

I'm guessing you don't um and ah about whether to clean your teeth or flush when you've visited the bathroom (I'm hoping) - these things are unquestioned by you.

Likewise, tell yourself: "I'm not going to listen to excuses or wimp-outs - this is non-negotiable!"

Remember the words of Abraham J. Heschel: "Self respect is the fruit of self discipline, the sense of dignity grows with the ability to say NO to oneself"

If you must create wealth and I mean generational wealth, then you must learn what it means to practice fiscal discipline - you must discipline yourself to the point of being an automatic implementer. When you automate things, you don't think about them again, you just do them.

Every day and every time some shiny object comes into your view to distract you from your chosen route, remind yourself that Sorry, it's non-negotiable

That way, you would become a made person sooner than you realize it.

Go do it

Cheers

  1. 1. Motivation is that key ingredient that spurs on towards achieving their dreams, it's like the drop in an ocean, like in chemistry motivation diffuses moving from places of higher concentration (from the mind) to places of lower concentration (every part of the body where the action needs to be carried). Motivation also charges our mind into doing things we would not have naturally done on our own free will. Like a perfume, motivation announces our presence, like a perfume motivation tells others little bits about us. And like a perfume motivation also spurs others around us to become productive. When one is motivated he is able to summount any challenge that comes his/her way. And it blinds out doubt, I can not do it spirit and all.

    2. 1.Sometimes forgetting what you were going to get half way.
2.Making you feel and adore fear
3.Thinking others are better than you.
4.In the dark, the brain creates images making you think someone is behind you.
    5. Temporarily forgetting what you read during an exam.

    3. It doesn't stop. Albert Einstein before he died begged that his brain not be stolen after his death.

  2. 1.Motivation is like perfume. We know what perfume does when we spread it on our body. It gives the fragrance of the particular perfume which most times is good. Any one who has people that motivate him or her is BLESSED. However, if one can come to level of motivating himself , that person has really arrived because most times in life, one may not get help when one needs it most not to talk of being motivated by another person. Motivation is like perfume to the man who is prepared and who knows where he is going and what he wants from life !
    2. Five ways in which the brain has shown that it's not man's friend are : (a)When you have an important appointment to keep, one may over sleep and miss the time. (b) On an examination hall, one can forget the answers to the questions meanwhile the person read it few hours to the exam. (c) When some one is in danger and needed to think straight, one can go blank. (d) One can over feed sometimes due to the sweetness of food and partly due to lack of discipline and become lazy to do normal work one is supposed to do due. (e). When one plans things one wants to do and still fails to keep to them.
    3. At no age does the brain stop developing. The brain only stops developing when it is not put in use by activities like *Thinking *Reading* Writing*.

  3. Perfume is savoury. It has a sweet smell and fragrance that exhumes out from it but it fades away. One can only retain the sweetness by continuous application each time one wears a dress. Most of one's clothes may have had several application of the perfume, once it is not spread, the fragrance ceases to radiate. That's how motivation is. When you stop activating it, it slips. Motivation needs constant and consistent application.

    1). Forgetfulness-One's inability to remember appointments/schedules.
2). Loss of memory- sometimes we tend to forget strategic things at the very point we needed them. Most times in an exam Hall or while holding a discussion.
3). Gluttony-The brain can lead to the wantonness of much foods and drinks when presented with one mostly on a rare occasion.
4). Emotions- most times, the brain presents with so pitiful/sad moments that we battle with. Sometimes, it can deepen one's state of mind into negativity.
5). Sex = most times the brain gives a terrible interpretation of how sweet this can be and persuades one to accept it even most times against our wish.

Scientifically, the brain stops developing at the age of 25(youth age). Science will say it's a neurodevelopmental stage from conception till that age. Every other activity that happens in the brain is about feeding it with required information at a given time. This process is a continum till death. This is what we are doing, furnishing ourselves with information like we do by reading, watching and acting. Presently, we are storing information in the developed brain.

  4. Motivation is like the perfume because it's beautiful, provocative, has a sweet aroma, it's desirable, yet it's stronger at the beginning, keeps leaking as time passes and eventually u need to apply it again.
5 ways in which the brain shows its not my friend.
À. That I know something that something is right is no guarantee that I will do it
    B. That I actually mentally agree that I will do something doe nt mean that I will perform my desire
    C. My brain actually bombardes me with negative selftalk which can sabotage my efforts
    C. My brain can fail me and it can freeze when under the influence of negative emotions eg fear
    D. My brain through negative thoughts can lead me to believe what I'm not and eventually become that which I think
    E. My brain needs to be rewired if I must succeed
3.Neuro scientists have discovered the plasticity of the brain hence its capable of learning new things, no matter one's age, always making new neural connections. Hence, there's no particular age in which the brain stops developing except at the age when one stops learning and that could be at any age

  5. It sounds so catchy as the word enlist out, Motivation is a perfume. Looking at it from different perspectives, it can mean different things to different people. Some perfumes last only for 24hrs, others 48hrs or even 72hrs as the case maybe. Perfume only reminds us how good our fragrance can be at that particular time. It is the same as motivation, you have to be aware lf it all the time. Nobody is going to remind you to apply the perfume when the good scent is no longer there, in the same way, nobody will ask you also to motivate yourself again when you feel so down and you want to give up. It all calls for SELF DISCIPLINE and all that. We must continue to make efforts to replenish our source of strength without asking for external help. Am not saying asking for help is a bad thing, all am saying is that one has to make up their mind to do the needful. One thing I have come to realise is this, even when the motivation comes up as often as possible and there is no self discipline, it will still not work out as planned. Motivation is perfume only if we continue to replenish the good fragrance that comes with it in spite of all that is happening around us. Nobody said its going to be easy, but it definitely going to be possible. Some perfumes on its own does not have a good fragrance when you perceive it. This is also the same for motivation, some are more difficult to understand and requires not just the normal self, but thinking outside the box to make sure the things does not fall out of place. Motivation is perfume indeed!

    2. a. Inability to think outside the box

    b. Always following the same pattern of information.

    c. When we sometimes think we have exhausted what it can offer.

    d. When we decide not to discipline our self and stray away completely.

    e. When we allow others to do our thinking for us.

    3. Well..... I used to hear that there comes a time when the brain stops developing, but there is really anything like that. Apart from the fact that the brain of a child is different from that of an adult. It is usually said that we only use little part of our brain. I don't really think the brain will stop developing any time soon because people will always continue to prove this things beyond our imagination. Inventions are being made on a daily basis, does the mean that the brain has stopped developing? I think this brain development and belief has to do with mindset. When you think there is nothing your brain can do again, so it becomes for you as that. When you see yourself doing great things and not limiting your brain, it still works for you. We could argue that people as people get older, they start to misbehave and limit their brain, but the thing is this, we tend to believe what the crowd and what the theories will always say. Nobody has given it a taste to actually see what the limits are at that time in life. I do not totally believe there is a particular age when the brian stops developing. It's only a thing of the mind.

  6. 1: On my own understanding of motivation is like perfume. Perfume when spread on our body it gives a savoury fragrance which most times is good. Motivation is like perfume to the man who is prepared and who knows where he is going and what he wants from life. Like a perfume motivation announced our presence, like a perfume motivation tells other little bits about us. Motivation like perfume needs continuous spread in our life once we stop applying it the fragrance will cease to radiate.
2:i- man's brain will freeze under pressure or influence of shock or negative emotions.
b- forgetfulness- when you have an important appointment to keep, one may over sleep.
c- in the dark, the brain creats fearful images.
d- the brain can go blank during examination or important interview.
e- our brains can give us negative selftalk.
3: I don't think there's a specific age for the brain to stop growing. Because we continue to learn and invent new things till the our last day. The only brain that stopped growing is a lazy man brain.

  7. Motivation is like a perfume. Perfume has a transformative quality that awakens something in all of us, from admiring the precious liquid inside the beautiful bottles, to an aroma that can teleport you to a time or place in an instant. Perfume is the key to our memories so is motivation. Apart from the fact that motivation is a confidence and mood booster just like a perfume, it also enhances any occasion. The beauty of motivation is that it speaks to your heart, and hopefully someone else’s. No elegance is possible without motivation. It is the unseen, unforgettable, ultimate accessory. Good manners and motivation is what transforms the man into a gentleman! And just like Perfume, motivation is like a new dress, it makes you quite simply marvellous.
    a. Our brain is plainly lazy, it likes to take short cuts to decision and at times leads to mistakes.
    b. One thinking is swayed by hidden biases. It can influence how we perceive people, how we perceive events and aspects of situations we pay attention to while making decisions.
    c. Our brain like to play blame game. When something bad happens, it is only natural we look for something to blame instead of taking responsibility.
    d. Our brain can be blind to change. For example, Would you expect a person to suddenly transform into somebody else while you were talking to them? Of course not—so it's not so surprising you might miss a major shift in your situation or environment.
    e. Our memory is not as sharp as we may think. Memory isn't like a video camera, carefully preserving events exactly as they occur. It's much more fragile, inaccurate, and susceptible to influence than you may believe. We also tend to forget enormous amounts of information, from trivial details we run into every day to important information that we need. For example, you can forget what answer to a question you just read when writing exam.
Brain Maturity Extends Well Beyond Teen Years Under most laws, young people are recognized as adults at age 18. But emerging science about brain development suggests that most people don't reach full maturity until the age 25. But to me it is a continuous process.

  8. Motivation is like perfume in that, À. it's beautiful, inspiring, strongest at the onset but has a tendency to diminish in ardour as time goes by. Like perfume, it leaks. Hence self discipline which requires Tha ability to automate oneself to do right things at the right time without questioning and negotiation is needed.
2 Our brain forgets and need to be reminded
    B. Controls us to keep us lazy
    C. Requires rewiring to be productive
D Cannot be depended upon to make us succeed
    E. Can grow old and be diseased and so can fail us
3.The brain can continue developing for as long as long it is being utilised and one is learning.
    B. The reason for this is because neurosurgeons have discovered the plasticity of the brain and its ability to form new neural pathways as one learns.
