Completely Unprepared

Muri had always had things come to him without much hassles, Not that he was born with a silver spoon in his mouth but from childhood he had learnt how to position himself to receive. His Father taught him that.

He was one of those lucky fellows who were picked up from the University immediately they were through with their studies but that aside he also did very well in the aptitude test that was administered on him and the others - infact the beat every other person to the first position and so he was offered the job of Assistant Marketing Manager immediately.

The offer came with a house - a 3 bedroom detached bungalow tastefully furnished, and a car loan for him to buy a car of his choice.

He was made to understand that the house rent and refunds for the car loan would be taken out of his monthly salary and he did not mind that.

Part of the conditions for employment was also that he was to be on probation for not less than 2 years and that confirmation and promotion were dependent on available vacancies.

Being a green horn, he did not really understand the unwritten lines behind those words so he really didn't mind.

He was too happy to have a well paying job to be bothered with the mumbo jumbo that lawyers had put together in the form of conditions of service.

He was earning a good sum of money on monthly basis but most of it was going for the refunds - house rent and car loan; he was waiting for the day that he would finish paying for the items so that he can then start saving money for his own survival.

At the end of 2 years, his appointment was confirmed.

3 years after he started work, he was yet to be promoted and then it went over to 4 years. He approached the Director of Administration to know when he would be promoted and he was informed that promotions are subject to vacancies and that right now there were no vacancies in the office of the Marketing Manager since the present occupant was still active and delivering on his mandate. He was advised to man his duty post effectively and that when the time was ripe he would be promoted.

5 years after he started work, he got married. The marriage brought in added responsibilities as his wife was not working. He started noticing that his income was not matching his expenses again. He had since finished with the car loan but now only paying for the house rent since it was not on Mortgage.

6 years after he started work, his wife put to bed - 2 babies (a boy and a girl) and that increased the demand for money in the house.

Again he sought the face of the Director of Administration and asked when he would be promoted since his family has expanded now and his income is not able to cater for the family. Again he got the same reply.

Being so livid with rage, he stormed out of the Director's office cursing and swearing, this attracted the attention of his co-workers and even the Top Management. That action attracted a query and in answering it he poured out all his frustrations about the Company and his stagnation.

On receiving the reply to the query, the Director of Administration recommended that his appointment be terminated since he was a risk to other workers in the Company.

When the Managing Director got the reply to the query and the Director's recommendation, he simply endorsed it because he felt that for a man so highly placed and trusted to have acted that way, if he was not checked, he would become an undue influence to the other workers and one day they might have a strike on their hands from aggrieved workers.

The next morning when Muri came to work, he had no inkling as to what was waiting for him right on his table; so when he saw an envelope bearing his name, he wondered where it came from but then took it and tore it open. When he read the content of the letter of termination of his appointment, his heart sank into his tummy and he just collapsed into his seat and there was nobody there to see what happened.

Not only was his appointment terminated with immediate effect and his severance pay included therein, he was given 30 days to pack out of the Company's house or face eviction.

Filled with indignation, he marched to the office of the Director of Administration to give him a piece of his mind but he was unable to have access because the DA suspecting that he would behave in that way had asked security personnel to be stationed before his office to prevent any mishaps.

Since he could not have access to the DA or the MD, he left the place filled with bile in his mouth and regrets of the years he had wasted in the Company.

His major challenge was not even that his appointment was terminated but how to relocate his family to a new home in 30 days since all he had was the severance pay which was just 150% of his salary and which would not be enough to rent another 3 bedroom bungalow.

Kindly answer these questions

1.   How would you title this story?

2.   What was Muri's major mistake in accepting the job offer?

3.   Mention at least 3 financial mistakes that Muri made while the job lasted?

4.   What do you think that Muri should do to beat the deadline given to him to relocate his family?

5.   Can you hazard a guess as to Muri's next line of action?

    2. MURI'S MAJOR MISTAKE: (a) He should've turned down the offer of company accommodation and put up in his personal rented accommodation (b) Not having a thorough understanding of the legal interpretation of the employment contract

    c. He failed to develop another source of income (at least through the wife) for the family; since she was not working
    4. TO BEAT THE DEADLINE: Muri should send his wife/children to his/her parents home for their safety, move in with his buddy to pick up the shattered pieces of his life and launch out again
    5. He seems to be one that may go begging the management to give him enough time (3months?) to vacate the company accommodation

2.Failure to seek further legal clarifications on the initial conditions of his employment. Again, rushing to accept car loan/accommodation arrangement plan of his company without considering budget friendly alternatives.

    3. Failure to activate other alternative income sources
Getting married to a jobless wife and allowing her remain so without starting her on something.
Having so much confidence in a job that did not guarantee high security.

4.Moving his family to his parents' house in the interim.

5.Muri can reach out to his company for forgiveness and possible reinstatement, on their own terms. He can as well appeal to friends and relatives to rescue him financially.

1.I think the title should be LEVERAGE OF INEXPERIENCE OR LEVERAGE OF A "GREEN" LAD
    2. Is inexperienced that made him neglected the conditions of service
    3. First the fact that he never had savings, secondly his inability to spread is hand into other income streams and thirdly he should have turned down the offer for the house by the company and moved into a single room apartment.
    4. He should try and relate with family members on how to move back to the family house or solicit for money from friend and family to get a cheaper accommodation
    5. He should quick seek for another job opportunity to take care of himself, wife and kids, while he gets trained in wealth creation

3.(I) He did not save any money for the raining day
(ii)He did not think about any other sources of income apart from his salary
(III)His expenses became more than his income

4.He should look for a house whose rent is within what he can afford without regard to his status.

  11. 1. Title : a bird at hand is worth two in the bush.
2.His major mistakes are accepting the job on debts already fixed and not truly discerning the conditions. He is not obliged to ride a car at a start or live in such a house (a room can serve), even getting married when he is not financially stable.
    3. Renting house that he can't actually afford, riding car on loan, getting married when he is not yet financially stable.
4.He should pack to village or to one of his relation's house if he can't afford to rent another house.
    5. Look for another Job having in mind his last experience.

    2. The mumbo jumbo of being in probation for 2 years and not going to have a promotion until there's a vacancy in the company. And also, for allowing his house rent and car payment be taken away from his salary.

    3. I think he didn't invest in something that'd bring him profits over time

I think he didn't have an emergency fund savings

    4. I'll say he needs to sell his car (since it's completely his now). I think he should also look for a cheaper house and rent for the main time until he finds something to do that'll generate him money.

    5. I think either Muri might be angry and want to take the case to court.

Or he might accept his fate and leave the house to look for a better life since life has dawned on him.

  13. Title: THE TRAVAILS OF AN EMPLOYEE
2.MAJOR MISTAKE. LACK OF PROPER UNDERDTANTING OF HIS CONDITION OF SERVICE
3.FINANCIAL MISTAKES, BASICALLY LACK OF UNDERSTANDING OF HOW MONEY WORKS CULMINATING IN LACK OF SAVINGS, ACCEPTING LOANS FOR CONSUMPTION AND NOT SEEKING A MEANS OF EARNING RESIDUAL INCOME
4.IN THE IMMEDIATE, MURI SHOULD SEEK HELP FROM FRIENDS AND FAMILY SO HIS CHILDRENS EDUCATION WILL NOT BE DISRUPTED OR SELL HIS CAR TO GENERATE FUNDS URGENTLY.
5.MURI HAS LEARNT A RUDE LESSON. HE WOULD SEEK TO START HIS OWN BUSINESS ESPECIALLY MULTI LEVEL MARKETING WHICH REQUIRES MINIMAL FUNDS TO START. HE MAY PLAN TO START A BUSINESS FOR HIS WIFE.

  14. My title is; THE DITCH OF THE LAST WISH.

MURI's major mistake was his inability to discuss extensively the terms of the job on offer. He was carried away with the frenzy in which the new status will bring without recourse to the eventualities of the future.

Three major mistakes in which MURI made were:

No plans. He didn't set out to enhance life through wealth creation and generation both in the short term and long term.

No massive action as to how to invest while on the job. He was totally dependent on a stream of income. In meeting to life's challenges and amassing wealth. He didn't think of financial independence, freedom and security.

Finally, no saving culture. He was stocked with routine running of the family front. To be wealthy, he needed to save no matter how small and make it a persistent and consistent action.

Muri should switch into any available thing that will bring in any income to suit any available suit. Seriously, what he should do now is complex considering the timing. If he has any money left with him, this will assist my position on getting to work with anything available but considering the story line, it's just not very easy compressing the challenge.

Muri has been living with frustration already and that necessitated his action that resulted to lost of job. I am presuming a dejected life now. He really needs to thinker everything positive going forward otherwise, it's gonna be total disaster.

  15. 1. The need for proper financial understanding and planning.

    2. Muri's major mistake was accepting the job without any proper understanding of the legal terms of the job; its conditions of service.

    3. *Instead of growing any form of savings, he used most of his income to service his monthly financial debts.
*Since most of his income was going on paying off monthly debts, he would have developed a secondary source of income before thinking of marriage; because of it's added responsibilities.
*All through his years of working, he never prepared himself for any moment of unexpected financial emergency.

    4. Muri can look for a cheaper and smaller house and move in with his family using his severance paycheck OR he could send his family to stay with his parents while he squats with a friend and plan his next move.

    5. The first thing that might likely come to mind is going back to his company and pleading with them to give him more time to get a new place for his family or/and immediately put up his car for sale and get money to move his family to a new apartment.

    2. Muri's major mistake is accepting the offer without properly going through the terms and conditions attached to the offer.

3.the three financial mistakes he made are,
    He failed to save
    He failed to invest
    He failed to manage well.

    4. He should sell the car since it now belongs to him and use the money to get a small apartment for him and his family for the main time.

    3. Was spending more than he is earning; Was not saving for the rainy day and not he did not invest.
    4. He should either relocate to a smaller apartment or send to the stay with extended family.

  19. 1. Not all that glitters is gold.
    2. He should have thoroughly gone through the papers to know what he's getting himself into this is because whatever has your signatory on it is binding and it is off great importance to understand everything before signing.
    3. (i) He wasn't saving. (ii) He didn't try to start a side hustle because there's actually no job security as long as you're working with/under someone. (iii) When he had more people join his family,he should have looked for another stream of income to augment the family's income.
    4. He should look for somewhere he can take his family to. Might not be as flamboyant as the other place but he needs to move to avoid embrassment.
    5. Muri might need to go to his dad or anyone he's in good relationship with and take a loan or ask for some help to stand again
