Top 5 Most Important Things To Do This January

TOP 5 MOST IMPORTANT THINGS TO DO THIS JANUARY TO SET THE PACE FOR A SUCCESSFUL YEAR

1.      Take Stock of 2018 - usually termed "The Year in Review"

-        What were your achievements?
what is the how of them?

-        What were your failures?
what is the why of them?

2.      Set Your Goals for 2019

Distinguish your goals from New Year Resolutions

A Goal is a vision that is stepped down into a mission and captured in prints - black and white

The goals could be

Personal Development Goals
Career Progression goals
Financial goals
Wealth Building Goals
Success Goals
Business Development goals

3.      Map Out A PLAN of ACTION to achieve your goals

This is always the crux of the matter and here is what makes the difference between New Year Resolutions and Goals in their achievement.

Most New Year Resolutions are made on the spur of the moment out of excitement but real goals are written down on paper and constantly sighted.

A plan is a step by step executable action to achieve a goal

And if you must achieve your goals, you have to have a plan of action because a man who fails to plan has already planned to fail.

4.      Set Your Morning Ritual or Morning Routine

The morning hour - especially the wake up time - is the most important part of the day and that is why it is said that how the morning starts determines how the whole of the day would go

It goes like this
-        wake up
-        take two glasses of water (at room temperature)
-        break a sweat
-        refresh (empty your bowels, take a bath e.t.c)
-        Eat breakfast

Then you are good to go

5.      Establish Your Authentic Self

In God, you're someone very special and unique; there is no other person in this whole wide world that is you, so be the you that you are.

All the packaging
All the false life style
All the faking
take no one no where

nobody cares really
nobody is impressed

People will relate with and to you better when they know that you are the real original you and not a photocopy

So, Be You

I am fully persuaded that if you put these 5 things into proper perspective, you would surely have a better year this 2019

What's Your Plan?

Over the last 25 years, it has become a ritual for me in the last days of the outgoing year, to sit down with myself and God and review how the year had gone, the gains, the losses, the successes, the failures and my net worth for that particular year.

That is a prelude towards creating a pathway for the incoming year.

I have come to appreciate this task that I used to look forward to it with keen interest as each year began to end.

I learnt from the Masters that a Plan (especially a written one) is a visible road map that keeps one on the direction he or she has chosen to tread in the year and so I write down my Plans in easy and simple to understand pattern and that keeps me on course for that year.

Written plans are viewed by many of the most productive people I know as the power tool for achievement, the magic bridge to your goal.

Alan Lakein, the author of books on time control said, "Planning is bringing the future into the present so you can do something about it now."

So if you want to join the group of "Year Planners" in making a written plan, some of the questions you might begin with are:

Where do I want to be three months from now; six months from now; or a year from now?
How am I going to get there?
What do I have to do to get myself from where I am to where I want to be?
What's the first, small step I can take to get moving?
Stephen Brennan said, "Our goals can only be reached through a vehicle of a written plan, in which we must fervently believe, and upon which we must vigorously act. There is no other route to success."

You will be surprised how often the circumstances which will confront you, will fit in with plans you have laid out in advance.

Bernard Baruch, an advisor to many US Presidents, said, "Whatever failures I have known, whatever errors I have committed, whatever follies I have witnessed in private and public life have been the consequence of action without thought.”

You can write your own Plan today, that is if you have not done so yet.

Three Steps To Writing Your Professional WILL

Fact: I am a huge fan of the television series NCIS.

In a recent episode, one of the characters unearthed an “I WILL” list she wrote when she was a young child.

It contained the kinds of dreams you’d expect a young girl to have: “I WILL be a ballerina, ride a horse, live in a castle, have a boy and a girl…”

It got me thinking, “How long has it been since I last wrote down my hopes and dreams? When was the last time I allowed myself to take a step back and dream big?”

Even though the year is almost 6 months old but I urge you to write your own professional WILL.

Consider it your professional bucket list.

Fill it with what leadership expert Jim Collins calls your Big, Hairy, Audacious Goals (BHAGs).

They should be long-term, visionary goals that you want to accomplish over the course of your career.

Follow these three steps to write an effective WILL.

1.      Reflect
What would you like to accomplish in your professional life over the next 10 or more years?
For instance, you may wish to make a major career transition or perhaps you aspire to become a CEO one day.

Close your eyes and tap into your childhood dreams.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

While those fantasies may not make sense today, they could give you clues as to what professional accomplishments you would find most fulfilling.

2.      Write
You are ten times more likely to achieve your goals if you write them down. [TWEET

Once you’ve brainstormed your WILL, document it.

When you successfully achieve this goal, what will that look like?
What will be the outcome?
Go through this process for every item on your list.

Post a copy of your WILL someplace you’ll see it on a regular basis, such as the sun visor in your car or a wall in your home office.

Better yet, enter your WILL into your phone using an app like Evernote so you have the list with you at all times.

3.      Plan
The beauty behind the WILL is that you’re not expected to accomplish these goals any time soon.

You have loads of time to acquire the appropriate skill sets, make the right connections, and gather whatever other resources are necessary to help you succeed.

Consider which of your dreams you’re likely to tackle first and decide on an action plan for the year.

For instance, this might be your year to research what it will take to become a New York Times best-selling author so you can create smaller milestones to meet that goal over the next five years.

I’ve shared some of my WILL in the image above.

What will you accomplish in your career?
