Were It Not For God

I have been through a lot in this life, I have read other people's stories, I have listened to lamentations of the helpless and I have seen with my own very naked eyes what I call "poverty at work" and I have marveled.

Every day when I interact with people online or offline, I come away with the impression that we are a God-conscious people.

You ask a man - How are you? and he replies "I thank God"

You ask a woman - How are your children and she replies "We give God all the glory"

You ask another "how is life treating you? and he answers you "my brother it is God  o o o"

All these go to show that we have God so ingrained in our consciousness that we make reference to Him almost every minute of our existence.

And that is rightly so anyways because, as even the Scriptures say that it is in God that "we move, and live and have our being"

Were it not for God Who took you out of the wicked village where you come from, how would your story have changed?

Were it not God Who blinded the wicked people in your office from seeing you, how long would you have been at work?

Were it not for God Who caused you detractors to be deaf and dumb, how would your story have been told?

In this life, we pass through so much travails, there are things that cause us to be stressed, we hunger and we thirst, were it not for God, how would we have been able to scale through all these and still have stories of good life to tell?

God shields, He protects, He provides, He forgives, He saves, He leads, He cleanses, He listens and He answers.

Knowing then that we can not do without God and that as a matter of fact, we are nothing without Him, what manner of persons ought we to be?

To be completely dependent on Him because He is Dependable.

That is what we ought to be doing!!!

Some Days Are Just Like ......

You won't believe what has been happening around me since morning.

I got up to compile the #FreebiesMonday contest of yesterday and just half way through, I ran out of megabyte on the Etisalat sim that I use.

I inserted the MTN sim that I have some megabytes and lo and behold there was no service on that one, try as much as I could, it would not connect.

So I had to wait out the early hours of the morning before heading out earlier than usual to get some Etisalat recharge cards.

While waiting for the office to be opened (I was there before my Staff (you can imagine)), I called a young friend of mine who I had been on his neck since one week now to help do something that he is very good at, (for the past one week, I had called him more than 10 times, some he picked and some he did not pick, finally on Friday he told me that he was going to do the stuff on Sunday and send it across to me by Monday); Sunday when I called he said he was on the stuff and would be done with it in an hour's time, I waited for three hours before calling him back and he did not pick, when he eventually picked after like 5 calls he said he would call me back, he never did.

All through Monday, I called severally he did not pick and he did not fast forward what he told me he was almost done with the previous day, he did not call back neither did he send an sms.

So when I called this morning I was expecting to hear that the stuff was on its way to me but you would not believe what the young man told me after I pressurized him to speak to me (and he even picked the call at the 3rd call) here's what he said "I cannot combine doing what you asked me to do for you with what I am presently doing" - for a moment I thought I did not hear him clearly and so I asked him to repeat what he said and he did repeat it and I was dumb for some few seconds, infact if there was a bomb explosion near by, I would have been shell shocked.

That response completely pissed me off and I asked him why he had not told me all this while that I have been calling and disturbing him, why did he have to give me a false hope when he knew that he would not do what I asked him to do for me and he is SUPPOSED to be a Young FRIEND of mine???

So when eventually I had access to recharge card, I was about to remove the sim card from the modem and because perchance I was in such a hurry that the card cut into two as I tried bringing it.

I invited my Consultant to fix it and the man used super glue to hold the sim card together.

Of course it held together nicely tightly but when I inserted it into the phone to load the recharge card, the phone said there was no sim card and try as much as we could, it just was not working out (meanwhile MTN simply refused to connect) and we tried Glo, oh dear, it was even the worst.

Finally we went to the nearby Etisalat Experience Centre and lo and behold the young man there said that the sim card was damaged beyond repairs and that I have to get a new one.

So I ended up buying another Etisalat sim card, got registered and verified and back to the office, recharged it and then it was working and that made it possible for me to complete my morning task this afternoon while commencing today's task just about now.

Some days can be so irritating and frustrating -- today was one of such days for me.

But I'm already over it and surging on for what can be done with the remainder of the day

And as for those who call themselves friends, it is not compulsory that you agree to do something when you know you cannot do it or that you would not have the time to do it.

Better to be plainly truthful than to be economical with the truth; it is a trust killer.

Time To Change Your Mindset

This Post is for FIRST COMMENTER CONTEST

Every day, I get messages from my facebook friends telling me that they are searching for "good and well paying jobs" and requesting me to help them in their search or recommend them for one job or the other

I surely have nothing against anyone who is out there searching for a good job especially if they have been properly trained for such jobs.

However the truth of the matter is that while the Nigerian Educational system produces more graduates each succeeding year, the job availability is on the decline each succeeding year.

The time was when any good graduate would even get a job before he is through with his final degree exams.

In those days, Employers of labour used to visit Institutions of Higher learning to interview prospective employees.

And the successful employees not only get good and well paying jobs but they also get pecks of the job including a house and a car.

That was when there were just 43 million Nigerians with less than a million being graduates.

But in our time, things have not been the same again and would never be.

As at today, there are at least 210 million Nigerians with over 50 million graduates and still counting, the majority of whom are Youths (16 - 35).

The Education curriculum is skewed towards producing employees and that is the challenge that most young people have because they are brain-washed to believe that once they have a certificate, then they would surely have a job.

Having a certificate is no longer a pre-requisite for obtaining a job, rather having skills now supersede.

So, if you have been working in the belief that because you have a certificate, therefore you must have a job, then that is a very wrong notion and the time to change your mindset is now.

No Government in the world is able to employ all its employable citizens; and even with the Organized Private Sector being actively involved in employment, it is still not possible to employ all those who have certificates.

It then means that anyone who has a certificate should do better to acquire some other skills aside his or her certificate that would put them on a higher pedestal for employers.

But while waiting for employers to show up, any right thinking unemployed young person should get busy instead of sitting at one corner and complaining about the state of joblessness because I must tell you that there is no such thing as a "state of absolute joblessness".

Joblessness is relative in that it is a choice that we have to make.

So, if you find yourself in a state where you have a certificate but not a job yet, then get busy, join online businesses, start offline businesses, get involved in volunteer jobs, participate in Community activities --- whatever else you do, just get busy.

Your state of "busyness" pays great dividend.

Do Not Neglect The Assembly Of The Saints Together

This Post is for FIRST COMMENTER CONTEST

While Jesus was moving around Judea, doing good, raising the dead, healing the sick, curing the infirmed, feeding the hungry, He had men with him who He described as His disciples.

The men around Jesus may not have really understood Who He was and what His Mission on earth was, but they followed Him.

Some of them abandoned their lucrative businesses and occupations to follow Him.

Some even abandoned their families and friends to follow Jesus.

However, when His earthly Ministry was coming to an end, Jesus cautioned His disciples  severally, reminding them of what He would pass through and what they would suffer for His Name's  sake; but it was quite obvious that they did not grab what they were told.

Then came the time for the glorification of the Son of Man and Judas thought He was doing the Jews a favour not knowing that it had been so ordained and in that particular night, Judas betrayed Him with a kiss and Peter denied Him three times; so that when eventually Christ was crucified on the Cross, His disciples SCATTERED. They hid from the public eye because they were afraid for their own lives too.

But when they came to themselves again, they remembered that their Master had advised them to be at one place until the Comforter is sent to them from above, who shall lead them into all the truth concerning the Father and the Son and shall give them grace to withstand the vissiccitudes of life; it was only then that they traced their ways back to the Upper Room, where they waited for the Comforter and it was shared that while there, they COMMUNED together in the BREAKING OF BREAD, in FASTING and in PRAYER.

They shared each other's burdens, they worked together to edify the gathering of God's people.

In our time, we have the Bible with us, it is the EXPLICIT WORDS of God exposed to us for our learning, our teaching and our edification.

And a Sunday presents a good opportunity for those who hunger after Christ (Christians) to COMMUNE TOGETHER, to share bread and to pray together.

A Church is the congregation of God's people and not necessarily the BUILDING housing the congregation and so when we go to Church on Sundays, we are not only fulfilling the injunctions of the Scripture but also and most importantly communing with God Who ALONE has the Power and Might to keep us safe.

Today, don't just go to Church, but go to COMMUNE with God.

When we pray earnestly for others, God hears the groans of our hearts and He answers

And The Weekend Is Here Again!!!

Hurray!!!

It's Saturday and the weekend is here again.

Each time Saturday comes, I am so much beside myself with joy and I am sure I am not the only one in that shoe.

Folks love weekends because it offers us all (working and not working) the opportunity to completely UNWIND.

Surely God must have had a very good reason for creating a Saturday and men and Government complemented it by creating the 40 hour working week which runs from 8am (9 am in some climes) to 4 pm (5 pm in certain other climes)

So no matter the job status of any one, each one of us looks forward to the weekend.

I am surely looking forward to having so much good time today from the things I do that give me joy and that includes ensuring that you my good friend is adequately informed of happenings around you and also on how you can take care of your health while you are young so that your health can take care of you when age is no longer on your side.

So for today, go out and that do that which makes you happy - that's the ONLY #REASON WHY you are on #PlanetEarth

Reading Maketh A Man

I grew up at a time when there were competitions held for READING.

Starting from our Primary School to the Secondary School, we held competitions in Reading and that reading had to do with books - all kinds of books.

In those competitions, you would choose the books to read from a long list of books to be presented to you and then you would summarize each book you have read.

And the winners always emerged from the number of books they read and their ability to do a concise summary of the books they read (what is now regarded as Executive Summary).

Those reading competitions turned us in AVID and VORACIOUS readers and also good writers.

At 16, I had read almost 250 books on various subjects ranging from Spirituality to Esoteric to Romance to Terror to Politics to Escapism to Crimes e.t.c.

I learnt to be a fast reader and also a fast writer.

I was well grounded, all thanks to my early exposure to reading and writing.

But nowadays, I think that culture has been lost.

People no longer want to read, they are comfortable with the little they know as long as it brings food to the table (as if life is all about bringing food to the table)

People no longer write long essays. They are comfortable with bits and pieces that make little meaning and when one writes a long essay, not many persons are willing to do justice to it by reading it. Some just jump to conclusion with the title alone not knowing what the content is all about.

Just this morning I created a post on "Life Comes With No Guarantees or Warranties" and in my usual characteristics, I shared it to some of my facebook friends; you won't believe what one of them said to me - "sir, this is very long, can you shorten it for me?"  I was lost for words and all I remember telling him is this "those who seek short cuts to life end up being short circuited" and that's the basic truth.

It is said that why we lag behind in almost every aspect of life is because we do not read. I read of a joke where it was said that if you want an African not to know a thing, hide it in a book and give the book to him or her to read, chances are that s/he would never read the book and so would not know that thing.

We need to cultivate the habit of reading, we need to cultivate the habit of writing long essays, they are still very relevant even in this day and age.

Another New Day Is Here

I extend the fraternal greetings of my family members to you all with the good hope and expectation that the good Lord Whom we serve and worship did quicken up your spirits this morning and brought you back to life.

It's a new day today. I love new days, I love new beginnings because that is what any new day offers to us.

A new day offers us a chance to clean out the wrongs of yesterday and write in the rights of today.

A new day gives us the opportunity of reconciliation through forgiveness and open heartedness

A new day is surely a tonic for the heavenly minded to know that each new day takes us closer to 6ft below the ground because no man shall live on this side of the divide for ever.

Just another new day and certainly one to make us shine like we have never shone before

Why not make a better use of today's new day?

It shall soon pass and then it would never be called back.

And as you do that, may God bless every effort and struggle of yours to make your life better than it was given to you

How To Succeed One Moment At A Time By Living In The Moment

When you live consciously in the present moment, you're free from the stresses of life. It enables you to feel calm and to think with an astounding clarity. 

Living in the moment sounds easy, but it will take some effort until you get into the habit. After all, with so much going on around us, it's easy to get distracted by fears, worries, frustrations, and stress. But once you get used to it, though, you'll wonder how you could have lived any other way!

What can you do to make living in the moment your way of life?

Try these steps in order to gain present-moment thinking:

1. Meditate. 

The very point of meditation is to live in the present moment and accept things just as they are. It's a practice that you'll get better at the more you do it. 

To help quiet your mind, the best thing you can do is focus on your breathing and keep striving to release your thoughts with each breath you take.

2. Accept the past. 

You'll feel better about yourself once you learn to accept past situations. 

There's nothing you can do to change the past. 

Bringing the past into your present only clouds your present thinking and makes it harder for you to concentrate on the present moment.

• Thoughts of the past will still arise, but when you learn to accept it for what it is, you'll be able to return to the present moment without regret or grief. 

3. Accept the future. 

On the other side of the coin, you also need to accept the future. You ultimately have no idea about what's going to happen, and worrying about it won't make an ounce of difference.

• How much time do you waste in a day by sitting around thinking about what you're going to do? When you stop thinking, you have more time to actually do it! 

4. Be mindful.

When you're mindful, you pay close attention to what you're doing in the present. 

You may think it's just a mundane chore, but it's important to do it with an open mind. 

Open up your senses to what you're doing. You might be overwhelmed with positive feelings that you didn't know existed. 

5. Get in touch with nature. 

Take some time to get in touch with nature. You can go for a walk or just sit under a tree. 

There aren't many things that can open you up to the present moment like opening up to the vastness of nature. 

Remember To Relax

As long as you maintain a relaxed attitude, you can achieve conscious living if you keep trying. 

It may help to think of yourself and your brain as separate entities. Your brain can be thinking thoughts all over the place while your "self" watches. 

When you maintain the wisdom to realize that your thoughts are out of control, the self can pull you back into the present.

Of course these goals are best achieved through meditative practice, but you can also try any activity that you find relaxing if meditation isn't for you. 

While you're relaxing, pay attention to your breathing and try to take deep breaths. 

Remind yourself that, in this moment, the past and the future don't matter in the least. 

After you've successfully added present moment thinking to a relaxing part of your day, it's time to spread the awareness to other times of the day. 

The more time you can spend in the present, the better.

 Live in the here and now, and enjoy a more fulfilling life!

30 Pieces Of Silver - The Cost Of A Betrayal

When He was born, the star shone brightly over Bethlehem and the 3 wise men from the East were led to give Him gifts.

Even though He also got involved in His "Father's" trade which was carpentry but at 12 He was already sitting in Court in the Synagogue and teaching the Teachers - the Pharisees and Sadducees . They all marveled at His level of knowledge of the Scriptures, His wisdom and intelligence.

At 30, He declared His Ministry, drew men to Himself as Disciples and followers, women were falling over themselves to be close to Him. He went about doing GOOD - raising people from the dead, healing so many others by Words and naturally, turning water into wine (how sweet the wine was that the Governor of the wedding party wondered why the groom had left the best wine for the last!?).

Many times, the Leaders conspired to get Him and kill Him, many times He went away from them because He already knew their intentions but when His earthly Ministry was to come to an end, He and His Heavenly Father only knew (no other person did), He started dropping hints here and there but as it was then just as it is now, men only listened but did not hear.

When the smart alec Judas Iscariot thought that he would be rich in rogue ways (not knowing that it had already been destined that someone close to Him would betray Him and which He even said that "the Son of Man shall die as had already been foretold but woe to him who shall betray Him"

Judas Iscariot it was who collected 30 pieces of silver (quite a huge sum in those days) to betray his Master and gave Him up to be crucified by the Jews. Judas had reasoned that since his Master used to perform disappearance acts, it would be difficult for the Jews to catch him and so he would pocket their money and when they came to him for refund, he would remind that he did perform his own pact of the bargain.

By now, those of you who are Bible Students know that I am talking about Jesus the Christ of the World.

But unfortunately for Judas and fortunately for US, when the Jews came seeking for Jesus and could not recognise Him because he was dressed up in the same simple ways as His disciples, Jesus asked them "Who do you seek?" and they replied and He said to them "I am He" (Glory!!!)

He owned up to being Himself even when He would simply have disappeared as Judas thought. But because the time was up, He needed to drink the cup to save the world.

The Jews proceeded to seize Him and gave Him all manners of ill treatment and eventually crucified Him, they thought they were doing Him in, not knowing that they actually RAISED Him higher above all the WORLD.

As for Judas Iscariot, not only did the Jews reject the money when he brought it back to them seeing that his mission failed, but he went ahead to commit SUICIDE and closed his chapter and that of his generations forever.

Never has anyone claimed to come from the linage of Judas Iscariot.

So Christ was betrayed for 30 pieces of silver.

Betrayals have become the order of the day even in our own generation.

These days, friends stab their bosom friends at the back for filthy lucre!

Husbands betray their wives by going into other women!

Wives betray their husbands by allowing other men to have access to their bodies!

Children betray their parents by pretending to be good children at home and then being wild cats in school or away from home!

Brothers betray brothers by converting what had been given to them to keep to their own use!

Sisters betray sisters by snatching their boyfriends or even husbands from them!

Politicians betray the people by cornering the common wealth into their pockets that would never be finished by their 10th generation yet to be born!

The Bourgeoisie betray the proliterate by making life so difficult that the poor usually continues to get more powerless as each day passes on!

Which one shall we count and which shall we not count?

What Do You Have?

He was born at a time when there was so much persecution in the land of his birth.

The Head of State had issued a decree that all male children born to a certain ethnic group should be killed at the point of birth, so many were killed but when it was time for his mother to give birth to him, even before the midwife could come, she had delivered and because he was a male, the woman and her daughter decided to hide him by the bank of a River.

When the daughter of the Head of State went to the River to take her bath with her royal maidens, she heard the cry of a baby and asked that the child should be brought to her, she saw him, and knew that he was a son of the tribe but she had compassion on him and decided to adopt him; on her way home, the child's sister caught up with her and suggested to her that the baby could be nursed by a wet nurse from the tribe, to which the Royal Daughter was in agreement and eventually the child's mother was sent for to nurse the child; and the child ended up being nursed by his very own mother.

And when the time came for a name to be given to the Child, the Royal Daughter named him Moses for she said "I got him out of the water"

Those of you who are Bible students sure know this story as if it were the back of your hands.

The Bible records that Moses grew strong in the House of Pharaoh and was even adopted as Pharaoh's son but he knew from interaction with the people that he was not an Egyptian, rather he was an Israelite.

When eventually he went forth to protect his own people by killing their detractors, words got to the Pharaoh and they sought to kill him so he had to run for his dear life.

In his pilgrimage, he ended up being a Shepherd for the sheep of his father in law and eventually God caught up with him in the bush and asked him to go bring the Israelites out of Egypt.

All his excuses and alibis fell flat before God because God had right from day one of his birth chosen him as the one that would carry out that task

Finally when he complained again that he had nothing to carry out God's instruction to him, God asked him -  "What do you have in your hand?"

In today's world, so many of us are like Moses.

The voice of God in us (the quiet silent voice) sends us on an errand and we begin to give excuses and alibis as to why what we are asked to do cannot be done.

We are good at postponing for tomorrow that which can be done today because we lack the will and power to have it done as and at when due. That is called procrastination.

So many geniuses are lying out there in the Cemetery in their cold graves because they just could not bring themselves up for once to showcase the talent that God had grafted into them.

Fear did not let them be who they ought to be.

It is time to remember that though you came into this world naked and would go back same way, but God equipped you with at least one talent with which to positively affect the world around you.

What shall you tell Him when you meet up with him on the last day, what account would you give Him as to what you did with His talent in you?

If God calls you, He usually equips you.

So this SEPTEMBER, I ask you that question: What do you have?

If you say that you have nothing, then it only means that you don't know yourself yet and you have to use this month to actually know yourself - find out what your passion is and then begin to run with it.

We don't have eternity here on earth, our time here is limited and so we must pack into it as much positive impacting activities as we can

If you have NOTHING, allow us to help you find the SOMETHING in you.

And if you have something but not effectively using it, allow us to help you find use for it.

As August Ends!!!

This Post is for FIRST COMMENTER CONTEST

Finally the 8th month of the year of our Lord two thousand and fifteen is ending today.

The flight will finally be landing by 12 midnight today and with that the journey through August would have come to its end and another journey into September will commence.

I know that by morrow, we shall all troupe out to wish each other a happy new month, we shall pray to God that the month of September would be better than August, we shall pray that God's ubiquitous blessings would be on all mankind - first our family, then our friends and finally on others.

There is nothing wrong in wishing ourselves and others well, but wishes that are not acted upon never come to fruition.

If we want to move from point A to point B, no matter how much we wish it, if we fail to take the first step to commence the movement, we would never get to the desired point.

So while August is ending, another month - September - is starting. If August has failed us despite all the good wishes we got at its beginning, then we need to do something different so that September would be good to us.

It is our action that determines our gains

Today, thank God that He has seen you to the end of the 8th month, ask Him for grace to do better in the month of September.

God Is Able

Hello friend

Greetings of the new day.

It's Sunday the beginning of the Christian week and a day to go worship God in His Holy Tabernacle.

Often times we wonder if really God is able to deliver us from our numerous travails and trials?

Often times our faith fails us and we ask that question "God where are You?" in anguish and confusion!

A Sunday offers us a hope for answered prayers, provides us with the answer to our numerous unanswered questions.

A Sunday brings us closer to God and we can actually feel His Awesome Presence in and around us if we but go to Church for Him!!!!

When we are with God, when we search His Words as scripted in the Scriptures, when we earnestly seek Him with a hunger and a thirst that can not be satiated or quenched by natural food and water, then we shall find Him.

And when we do find Him, we would come to the full realization that He is really able.

My God is able, and I know it; because if for nothing else, who would have brought me back to life today? Who would have given me another brand new opportunity to try out again today?

Nothing in this world has that power, nobody no matter how powerful can control the matters of sleep and wakefulness - only GOD.

So today, if you are challenged physically, socially, spiritually and psychologically - you know what? Take it/them to God in His Temple.

I tell you, He would definitely take care and you shall have a reason to smile again.

Remember that the Church is for SINNERS who seek salvation and not for the SELF RIGHTEOUS who condemn others in righteous indignation.

Some time ago, at a Conference, a motivational speaker, mounted the Podium, brought out his wallet and pulled out a N500 note.

Holding it up, he asked, "Who wants this N500 note?"

Lots of hands went up. Including mine. A slow chorus began to build as people began to shout "Me!" "Me!"

I began to wonder who the lucky one would be who the speaker would choose. And I also secretly wondered (and I am sure others did too) why he would simply give N500 away.

Even as the shouts of "I want it" grew louder, I noticed a young woman running down the aisle. She ran up onto the stage, went up to the speaker, and grabbed the N500 note from his hand.

"Well done, young lady", said the speaker into the microphone.

The speaker simply said, "Most of us just sit and wait for good things to happen. That's of no use. You've got to make things happen. Make a move!"

Simply thinking about doing something is of no use and not good enough. Our lives are like that. We all see opportunities around us. We all want the good things. But the problem is we don't take action.

We all want the N500 note on offer. But we don't make the move. We look at it longingly. Get up, and do something about it.

Don't worry about what other people might think.

Take action!

2. Whatever the Nay-Sayers are saying, just mind your business

Later, the speaker got another N500 note and held it up for all to see. I thought I knew what was up. But he just asked a simple question.

"How much is this worth?" "Five Hundred naira!" the crowd yelled in unison.

"Right," said the speaker.

He then took the note and crumpled it into a ball and asked, "How much is it worth now?"

"Five Hundred naira!" screamed the audience.

He then threw the note on the ground, stamped all over it and picked up the note and asked one more time: "And how much is it worth now?"

"Five Hundred naira!" was the response.

"I want you to remember this," said the speaker. "Just because someone crumples it, or stamps on it, the value of the note does not diminish. We should all be like the N500 note."

Just because someone/some people reject you/your business doesn't change your/its worth one bit!

Don't allow your self-worth to diminish because someone says something nasty or rejects you/your business.

IT IS NOT ABOUT YOU. It only shows the person needs to grow, to mature to it!

Never let your self-worth diminish.
