The Truth, The Whole Truth and Nothing But The Truth
How many times have you
had to postpone what you wanted to do just because you did not have the time to
do it?
I bet your answer would be - many times
But do you know that we
own time and that time does not own us?
What do I mean?
Time is a perishable commodity in our hands and the way we use it determines
the height we are likely to ascend to.
When you postpone for
tomorrow what you can do today, all you are saying is that whatever it is does
not constitute a priority item to you. Because if it does, you definitely will
find the time to do it no matter how busy you may be.
Postponing for tomorrow
that which can be done today is called PROCRASTINATION. I am sure it is not a
new word to you. We are guilty of it in one form or the other and it is
popularly said that procrastination is a destiny destroyer, meaning that those
who constantly procrastinate would take forever to arrive at where they want to
be (i.e. if they arrive at all)
We all need to live in the
mindset of NOW, the mindset that demands that things be done just when they are
thought of, in order not to delay them.
Psychologists and Social
Scientists have found a cure for procrastination. It is encapsulated in the
acronym - DIN
It has been shown that
applying DIN on daily basis has reduced procrastination rates to less than 10%
for those who were ardent procrastinators.
And DIN stands for DO IT
NOW.
Now, that
is the Truth, the WHOLE Truth and nothing but
the Truth
Topic: Top 5 Things To Do In Order To Be Successful
There are popular sayings about success that I am hinging this presentation on.
It is said that "success is not a destination but a journey", this simply means that there are many facets or faces of success and that one might be successful in one facet and be challenged in the other facet and so one continually pursues success in all the facets even as we pursue excellence and perfection.
It is also said that "success has many relatives but failure is an orphan", the man who has achieved success in one field of endeavour continually attracts more success in that field, this keeps him very busy and active much unlike the person in the same field of endeavour but who has not made a mark.
And it is also said that "success leaves trails", no sentence could be truer than this. The successful person continually drops hints of how he achieved success as he interacts with people either at workshops or seminars or talks and these trails could be picked by anyone and used to achieve their own success.
In order therefore to be successful, here is the list of my Top 5 things to do in this 2019 to be successful
1. Avoid Procrastination Like The Plague
If you have never achieved much in any particular year, it can be related to the fact that you think that the year is waiting for you; in contrariwise, the year is on the move, whether you are moving with or not, it's just moving and unfortunately, you simply can't catch up with if you allow it to give you such a long gap.
This is what procrastination does to us, it makes us postpone for tomorrow that which we can do today because we think that we shall have more time tomorrow and we forget that tomorrow comes with its own challenges that would also demand our time.
So if you must succeed, you must chase procrastination out of your life and do it immediately.
Whatever comes your way and needs to be done, should be done without delay.
My personal mantra over the years has been - Do It Now and it has helped me quite a lot.
Avoid procrastination as you would avoid the bubonic plague.
2. Embrace Change
It is popularly said that the only thing that is constant in life is change and I am not talking about it as a political slogan but as a fact of life and living.
Whether we accept it or not, we are changing on daily basis, not only our bodies but also our physical environment continues to change.
Technological development has left many of us trudging along behind because we are not able to cope with the speed of change.
Yesterday, it was the analog telephone that was the in-thing, then Thuraya came but today, all those big phones have become big for nothing, a small phone can do what a computer can do because chips and microchips are now being deployed to do what cannot be done before.
In order therefore not to be left behind, embrace that which is new and learn its ways so that you can benefit maximally from its use.
Change is necessary for self-development; both mentally and physically if you want to live a happy life.
At our work places, change is crucial if you want to get recognition and promotions.
You can get quality education to make your CV rich and get a better understanding of the business world.
If nothing changed, everything would become stagnant and never improve.
So, give up your resistance to change
3. Give Up Your Fears
Fear is the senior brother of procrastination. The fear of the unknown is a very terrible thing indeed and helps to keep us chained at one particular place without making any efforts to take a trip because we are afraid of the outcome of that trip.
But do you know that Fear is a state of the mind? and that we allow ourselves to dwell in that state because it is conducive for us!
There are decisions we need to take, things we need to do but we allow fear to hold us back and down and by the time we realize the harm we had done to ourselves, the years have left us behind.
This, however, is not to disparage genuine and real fears, like the fear of doing any dangerous exercise that may cost us our lives, that kind of fear is what keeps us going but any other kind of fear that keeps us away from what we need to do should be done away with
Fear is a dangerous intangible thing that can hinder your progress and affect your relationships.
It was Roosevelt who said, “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.”
So this year, replace fear with love and curiosity and watch yourself grow rich in experience.
When fear comes knocking on your door, let courage answer it
4. Give Up Self-Deprecation
If your mindset is that which often thinks low about you, certainly you'd always talk down on yourself
Low self-esteem is a dangerous thing and often leads to persons having suicidal tendencies.
Undervaluing yourself is surely not the way to go because it ruins your self-confidence and makes you feel bitter all the time.
Self-deprecation always puts one in a sorry state.
This year, remind yourself that you are alive not by your own might and power but by the Infinite Power and your Senior Partner
Remind yourself that life is beautiful and thus needs to be lived while one still has the opportunity to live it.
So, it doesn't really matter what your personal situation is right now, what matters is that you are alive and only the living can have hope because once there is life, there is hope.
Speak up for yourself, never take No for an answer
Regardless of the situation, you are in now, don’t ever think the worst of yourself.
Patience is a virtue and it will help you deal with the discomfort in a way that best suits your life and the people around you.
Why don’t you inspire yourself and work hard to achieve your dreams?
5. Give Up Over- thinking And Thinking Small
Many people are challenged in the area of thinking.
Some find themselves in the habit of always thinking so much about what has come to them that they even become sick from such action.
It is good to think, that is why we have Philosophers who propound theories of existence from what they have thought out, however, too much thinking or over thinking as the case may be is not good for your health.
I would that you rather practice critical thinking.
Face the situation squarely, analyze it, check the cons and the pros, and then make a decision.
Over-thinking results in over analyzing and which will end up causing paralysis of analysis and leave you prostrate without taking any action.
On the other side of the coin is Small Thinking.
Again quite a lot of people are challenged by small thinking.
They never believe that they are worth more than they are at the moment and so when issues come up that demand higher and bigger thoughts, they get lost.
I need to remind us that we are all born genius without exceptions but most people fail to succeed because of their limited thinking.
Today break that barrier and unleash the you that you are supposed to be.
Give free rein to your thoughts, stop limiting yourself.
Infact, people are often advised to think outside the box if they want to have better answers to issues that are confronting them, today I want to ask you to BREAK THAT BOX and release yourself to be free to operate in a world that you have a right to be in.
Do these and I shall see you in the next Online Edition

Thank you for listening to me, you can help our Ministry of Encouragement to grow by associating with us on these social media handles
I remember when I was
growing up and being exposed to so many things that needed to be decided on.
I used to dither a lot on
taking decisions even on things that would move me forward.
There will always be
another opportunity used to be my mantra and I held unto that tightly like a
mother hen would do to her eggs.
I remember that in Class
1, I was the youngest in the Class but was made the Class Prefect by the
School's Senior Prefect who was then in Upper Six and who was my School Father.
He tutored me on how to control noise making in the Class and also deal with
unruly students; but like I said, I was the youngest in the Class and there
were quite a number of older guys and even bigger and more grown up than I and
so I found it difficult to control them. Instead of writing their names and
submitting as instructed, I would shift it for another day after verbally
warning them to no avail. Infact each time I warned any of them to keep quiet
in the Class, they would threaten me and continually brought me down before the
rest of the Class Members.
One good day, the Senior
Prefect was passing by the Class and we had no Class so the Students were all
playing and making noise, I was there and tried to control the Class to the best of my ability but again
to no avail, they just were not ready to listen to me; but as soon as he walked
into the Class, silence fell on the room as if the Holy Spirit had descended
upon the Apostles.
He asked me why the Class
was so rowdy and if I had written down the names of the Noise Makers, I
answered in the negative and he decided that since I was unable to control the
noise making in the Class and did not write down the names of the noise makers,
that he would take me as the noise maker and punish me accordingly and he did
just that; not only did he give me 6 hot strokes of the cane on my buttocks,
but he also mapped out a part of the grown field for me to cut.
After the School, he
called me to his cubicle and told me why he punished me and that it was because
I had refused to implement the instructions he gave me when he made me Class
Prefect; he then put this question to me, "If you don't write down the
names of noise makers when they are making noise, is it when the Class is quiet
that you would write it?"
Yesterday, you said today,
and today again, you are saying tomorrow!!!!
That is called
#procrastination
Are you guilty?
Yes you are
And how do I know that you
are guilty?
Because I was once in that shoe
There was a time, I could
not just decide on what I wanted to have done, even though several times I
already had it done in my mind; but lifting my physical being to do that thing
was an issue.
It must have been for fear
of tomorrow or fear of the consequence of the action or fear of one thing or
the other; but definitely it was as a result of FEAR.
Then one day, I put on the
armour of faith and decided that whatever it would result in, I was going to do
that which I had postponed for quite a while.
And kpummmmmm I did it
And what was the result?
The thunder did not strike
as I had feared, the heavens did not come down on the earth as I had
envisioned, the torrential rain did not result in flood to sweep away my abode
as I thought it would, none of the things I feared ever came to be.
I was the fear that I
actually feared. I was the one holding myself back, I was my own enemy and yet
looking for the enemy outside.
Today, are you afraid of
taking that step of faith?
Don't be afraid
Learn from me, the only
thing to fear is YOU.
When you conquer you, then
you would become the real you that you ought to be.
Try it
Don't forget to give the
testimony
Fear lives inside of us;
but God also lives inside of us, why don't we allow God to chase out the fear
in us??
5 Fake Productive Things
You Are Doing That Are A Waste Of Time
You are not as busy as you
make out, chances are you're wasting your time with these behaviours. Here's
how to reclaim your day
Most of us want to squeeze
more time out of each day. But once you’ve organized, listed, time-blocked and
eliminated distractions, what else is there to do?
Plenty, says productivity
coachHillary Rettig,
author ofThe 7 Secrets of the
Prolific: The Definitive Guide to Overcoming Procrastination, Perfectionism and
Writer’s Block.
Often, the biggest
time-wasters aren’t specific tasks, but behaviors that we get drawn into, she
says.
Once you learn to
recognize them, you can stop them from eating minutes or hours that could
better be used elsewhere. Here are five of the most common.
1. PUTTING
OUT FIRES
If you’re moving from one
crisis to another, you’re not making the best use of your time, Rettig says.
Too often, people get
swept up in drama, and situations that aren’t urgent or don't need your
immediate attention begin to feel like they do.
That’s a time-suck that is
based in illusion, she says.
Instead, look at the root
causes of these "emergencies." Are they caused by procrastination,
poor management, miscommunication or something else?
Once you understand why
situations are escalating to the point where they’re in need of
all-hands-on-deck attention, you can stem the tide—and begin to draw boundaries
if you find you’re spending too much time rescuing someone else on the team.
2. PERFECTIONISM
News flash: You’re not
perfect. No one is. So stop trying to pretend otherwise in your day-to-day
tasks, says organizational expertAlison Kero, founder
of ACK! Organizing in Brooklyn.
When you get caught up in
perfectionism, you typically waste time procrastinating, "because you’re
afraid you’re never going to get it done right, so why even bother," she
says.
Then, it can be tough to
complete or hand off your project or task because you never feel it’s good
enough.
When you let go of trying
to be perfect, you feel prepared to meet the challenge and know when the work
is good enough to move on to the next phase. It makes you more efficient and
productive, she says.
3. FEEL
GUILTY ABOUT PROCRASTINATING
Spending time on Facebook
isn’t a bad thing. Playing Trivia Crack on your phone isn’t, either.
They only become
problematic when you’re using them as a procrastination tool or they make you
feel bad.
If you feel guilty about
the amount of time you spend on social media, or using apps or looking at
friends’ photos online makes you feel bad about yourself, then it’s time to look
at cutting back or cutting them out altogether.
If you’re a small-business
owner who uses social media to connect with customers, or it provides you with
the opportunity to interact with people in a positive way, then it’s not a
time-waster.
Kero says understanding
how you feel about your daily activities is a clue to whether they’re helpful
or time-sucks.
4. FORCED
NEATNESS
If having a lot of email
in your inbox doesn’t bother you, then why spend hours each week trying to get
to inbox zero?
If you are fine with a
messy desk, then don’t sweat having a few piles here and there.
Kero says these things are
only problems when they distract you or inhibit your productivity.
"If you are the kind
of person where you look at your desk and somebody says, ‘Hey I need this
paper’ and you can, within 30 seconds to a minute, find that paper very easily,
then whatever system you’ve got going on is working for you.
If you lose things all the
time, your desk makes you feel like you’re in chaos and overwhelmed, and you’re
spending more time hunting for things than actually being productive, that’s
when it’s not working for you," she says.
But don’t spend time on
tasks just because you think you should.
5. TRYING TO
FIGURE EVERYTHING OUT ALONE
When you encounter a
roadblock, setback or unfamiliar territory, you’re much more likely to waste
time trying to figure it all out yourself than if you reach out for help,
Rettig says.
Sometimes, we think we can manage everything
ourselves, but getting advice or a helping hand can save time and provide
valuable insight and lessons.
Seek out a colleague,
mentor or other trusted source of knowledge or solutions instead of trying to
do everything on your own.
