The Truth - 25

The Truth - 25

The Truth, The Whole Truth and Nothing But The Truth

Education is said to be a tool to liberate the mind of men and make them more humane as humans.

Has Education actually lived up to that billing? or have the educated failed Education?

Those who made such sweeping statement about education as I said in paragraph 1 above did not take into cognizance the noisome pestilence that ethnicity and religion constitute in the life of men to the point that no matter how educated anyone may be, those primordial sentiments of where I come from and what my religion is will always take precedence over whatever else is good about a situation or a person I have to deal with.

If education is really impacting on those educated, then why would an educated fellow allow himself to be used as a willing tool to rig an election for an uneducated fellow who happened to be a money bag?

Why would an educated fellow be making excuses for failure of those in power simply because they belong to the same religion or come from the same place? Or why would an educated fellow be hailing someone in governance who apparently is just speaking too much English with little or nothing to show for his governance status?

I could go on and on but the point has been made.

The Educated have failed Education and she is so highly disappointed

Now, that is  *the Truth, the WHOLE Truth and nothing but the Truth*

"Hmmm, the crux of the matter is that greed , selfishness, inordinate ambition and many other vices that characterize humans and their attitudes are unfortunately not subject to changes which education exerts upon the educated! This is akin conceptually, to how water and soap, as efficient and effective they often are, in removing the dirt on us as we shower , they do little if anything to wash away the color of our skin at the end of our bath! So to expect a politician to behave exceptionally well , because he is educated is akin to expecting a dark-skinned man to emerge from bathroom white skinned because soap and water he showered with have cleaning powers . Yes , Education teaches one to appreciate order and may be
, to appreciate right and wrong about some aspects of life and actions; but knowing what is good to do is one thing and making up one’s mind to do good is a different thing altogether!
For instance, most members of the National Assembly are highly educated, they know fairness , equity and justice well enough as good virtues so much required in governance. That said, do they pursue goodness , equity or justice? Your guess is as good as mine ! Do they see anything wrong when they illegally adopted schemes that make a Senator to take outrageous 36million Naira monthly while they couldn’t find a way to enforce 30 thousand Naira minimum wage for the rest of the employees in the same nation per month and who buy from the same markets. What has Education got to do with this manner of injustice and selfishness! So do not expect too much from education per se ! It is not Education in its ordinary sense that checkmates man , it is the law that compels man to behave right, not his level of education. So leave Education out of the iniquities of man ! Education is good and it has lived up to expectations in modification , transformation and advancement of the societies world-wide, to the extent that every society knows best how to apply and appropriate the education of its citizenry!"

    1. Education is only a part of the building blocks of a good man. There are other things like experience, humility and wisdom. A man only acquires selflessness by being close to the Almighty Who loves those who are altruistic. Education alone cannot guarantee that people will do the right thing! The environment itself has better influence that just education. Knowledge as it were can only be beneficial if it is utilized.

  2. Education in itself can be viewed as a failure for some and as a means for others, the system itself have to be restructured so it can accommodate the trending development not just yo have certificate but also to contribute meaningfully to the system. We are moved by CERTIFICATE in this part of the world and its never going to help the system. Thank you for sharing such views Dr.

    1. Certainly we place more emphasis on paper qualification but that was the system of education we inherited from those who colonized us. We have been unable to deviate from that system even though it has become anachronistic and no use any longer; as they say old habits die hard

  3. First I want to believe that the author's write-up on Education today is in the light of the Nigerian situation and not in general terms. This is because it seems to me that Nigeria and I dare say Africa have over the years defied the power of education. The cliche that knowledge is power is not false. It is a proven fact. But the fact is that education is only a technical word for "knowledge". So one can say Education is power. So why is its power seemingly ineffective in Nigeria?

The answer is not far. Firstly what we call education in Nigeria is just a school system. There is no education in its real sense. Educated people in Nigeria make extra effort outside the school system to be knowledgeable. Our Education is not practical to strengthen character because it does not cause people to think and find solutions to emerging problems. This is the kind of education in Nigeria. So you can't see or have any practical input in the society. Leave the politician. Go to the higher institutions and see the kind of people impacting the students. They are mostly weak men and women.

But the chief factor for the dent in our Education and its weak prowess is LEADERSHIP. On it's shoulder depends everything. No Leadership, no idea, no example, no education.

You nailed it roundly in the head
When those who are supposed to impart knowledge are weak, what then would their products be?
      Wow!

  4. In my opinion, education will amount to anything in Nigeria if we did not set up systems that checkmates individual behavior. For the whites are not better than the blacks,it is because there is a system that punisshes every act that contravenes the law once caught irrespective of who is involved..If we can get to this point as a nation, then Nigeria will bebetyer for it.

    1. I completely agree with you
We need to build systems and not individuals

  6. Education isn't evil but its the activity of the attainer of it that could be evil. We blame not education which is but an innocent, good intention component that seeks to show man the right way. The inability of any man to adhere to what education points to be right is but a failure on the individual not education.
