Today Is Boxing Day
As a little boy, whenever I heard boxing day, I used to think that it was a day set aside for people to fight (box) each other.
And my thought then was not helped by the fact that those mesmerizing boxing tournaments of yore, used to be fixed on the 26th of December.
But when I became old enough to know left from right, I got to know that Boxing Day is a holiday celebrated on the day after Christmas which makes it the second day of the Christmastide and practiced in Commonwealth Countries.
So Boxing Day was traditionally a day off for servants, and the day when they received a special Christmas box from their masters. The servants would also go home on Boxing Day to give Christmas boxes to their families.
It was also a day when Trades-people, and the poor traditionally were presented with gifts.
However for a long time,
not only has Boxing Day turned to a day for family picnics and reunions, it has
also become a shopping holiday when Shoppers
used the advantage of the holiday to shop for the New Year festivities.
Today is December 26th and it is the Boxing Day.
Whatever it means to you, utilize it very well
Happy Boxing Day
