THE QUESTION
Recently Malam Nuhu Ribadu was quoted as saying that the Nigerian Nation as presently constituted is a "sinking ship"
If you agree with Malam Ribadu, to what period of time (date/month/year) do you think the Nigerian Ship started sinking? Justify your response
If you disagree with Malam Ribadu, justify your response with not less than 5 strong points?
I agree and I prove it with the following;
ReplyDelete1. From 1993 when the former president, His excellency, the late president SANI ABACHA was in office...From the moment he had in mind to change Nigeria and Nigerian to a Muslim and Muslim Country.
2. also, when The former president, his Excellency President Obasanjo (1999)took some certain amount of money from the former Governnor of Abia State as a gift before being elected into office as the Former Governor of Abia State.
3. Nigeria also continued in sinking when the Senate President remove (2013)to pay any amount to the graduate of Nigeria.
4. When EFCC (from 1993)go after the poor and leave the rich.
5. When amnesty was being grated in Nigeria. (2007)
ad many other thing/time
I DISAGREE AND PROOVE WITH THERSE POINTS:
ReplyDelete1.WE ARE IN A DEMOCRACY AND WE HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO GRADUALLY ELIMINATE ANY WOEFULL CAPTAIN WHO IS STIRING OUR SHIP TO DOOM, WITH THE POWER OF OUR VOTES AND THIS POWER CANNOT BE UNDERMINED BY INCUMBENCY AS EXAMPLIFIED IN EDO(OSHOMOLE-ACN), ANAMBRA(PETER OBI-APGA),IMO (ROCHAS OKOROCHA-APGA).
2. WE ARE NOT A SINKING SHIP BECAUSE THERE HAVE BEEN POSITIVE DEVELOPMENT SINCE 1999 WHICH PROVES THAT ONCE THERE IS DEMOCRACY THINGS WILL ALWAYS GET BETTER, eg.telecoms(from less than i million owners of telephone to more than 20 million today).
3.more employment opportunities exists in a continuous growing democratic environment which we are in.
4.improvement have been made in the power sector(even if 24/7 power have not been achieved)there is hope that if capacity is continued to be added, as its ongoing now, in the near future we will have constant power supply, therefore we are improving and not deteriorating.
5.finally Nigeria is not a sinking ship because our representatives at the national assembly are coming up with bills to better our country. we are on the positive side of the slope and efforts are being made in various ways by citizens , civil right organisations etc.
I AGREE WITH THE FIRST ONE.ONE TO TWO
ReplyDeleteI don't believe nigeria is in a sinking ship...
ReplyDeleteCos I can remember when communications is only owned by the rich and the poor make use of letter writing as a means of communications ..this was also introduced by obasanjo regime he made it easy for the nigeria,
Also I can remember when my dad always tell me that education is for the rich and the poor practice farming but the government help by introducing free education to help the poor masses
Also peter odili help in providing free bus that will transport student from their various home to their school ..
The statement credited to Huhu Ribadau was his response to the state of the nation where parochial politicking defined by bigotry, nepotism and ethnic exclusivity tends to undermine the tenets of modern(model)democracy whose concern should be the restoration of the dignity of Nigerians as citizens of the nation who possess inalieneble rights to, for instance, good health, security, representativeness, economic empowerment etc(of which factors know no race, region or religion
ReplyDeleteThe "sinking ship" is traceable to the colonial period of Richards constitution of 1st January 1946 when Nigeria was divided into three regions, the North , the West and the South.
This negative trend ethnic politics was however hyped by the by Major Gen. Aguiyi Ironsi, when on the 1st of January 1966, he staged a coup which ousted the Prime Minister. That coup was condemned by the North on the premise that most of the victims of the coup were leaders of the Northern echelon.
Thus in July 29 1966, a revenge counter coup leg by the Norther military led to the toppling of the Ironsi regime.
A kind of climax was reached in ethnic politics of regional exclusion when in 1966, Ojukwu led the East to declare a Biafara and this trend of parochial politics has continued to exacerbate by each count of the day
